Lord Shiva is one of the most revered deities of the Hinduism and one of the Trimurthi gods alongside Brahma & Vishnu. Shiva Linga is the holy symbol of lord Shiva. The word lingum in Sanskrit means Symbol.
Shiva purana says that performing abhisheka of shivalinga with 6 different dravyas milk, yoghurt, honey,ghee, sugar and water.

- Yoghurt- Prosperity & progeny
- Honey- Sweet speech
- Ghee- For victory
- Sugar- For happiness
- Water- For purity
Lord Shiva is the one consciousness who perceives all Transformations. Lord Shiva great destroyer, because by transforming our reality each moment he destroys what was to create what is.
Lord Shiva is the great Transformer who transitions us from the darkness of ignorance to the light of divinity. He helps us to move beyond our attachments so that we may discover the eternal consciousness that shines behind our perceptions. Shiva means “auspiciousness” and he represents the consciousness of infinite Goodness. LordShiva is known by several names Shankara, Mahesh, Mahadev, Nata Raja,Pashupathi and Bholenath.
Significance of Shivaratri Pooja
As per the Sanskrit,
- Sha is the illumination of peace
- I is the causal body
- Va union with the Infinite
- Shiva is the welfare of all objects of perception.
We should begin by conceiving in our mind the ultimate goodness.
Lord Shiva gives strength of will power to define & obtain our goals.
